EndNote Site License Options for UGA
EndNote X2 for Windows Alerts:
- As reported by the University of Queensland short guide to EndNote X2 : The RefMan RIS filter supplied with the Windows version of EndNote X2 is faulty. This will affect direct export from many databases. Download a revised version from the EndNote website.
- The Queensland guide also highlights other problems such as inconsisitent Find Full Text results which relies not on the OpenURL edit we've taught you to insert via Preferences/OpenURL to run Find it at UGA from within EndNote. If you choose to install EndNote X2, please go here for instructions to modify Preferences to run Find It at UGA for full text. I have now seen the Find Full Text function in X2 and it is powerful...but you'll have to wait for X2 to use it.
- Another issue (bug) which will be fixed in the patch is that. ALL results from Online searches from EndNote X2 directly into PubMed or GIL or Library of Congress, etc. will transfer IMMEDIATELY from the resource into your open EndNote library without awaiting your instructions. Workaround until patch is available -- create a temporary online search library and open it each time BEFORE you do your Tools/Online Search. There you can review/evaluate your online search results and cut/paste your selections into the appropriate library
- EndNote Web is now prominent as a Group in the left nav bar of EndNote library. You should evaluate whether you should use it or ignore it...RefWorks is a more robust citation manager service which we also site license. If you want a place to stash some GALILEO references when you're away from your own computer I suggest you use RefWork for Direct Export to a folder in RefWorkss. Then it's an easy transfer to your EndNote library at a convenient time. UPDATE: OK, I've now seen the enhanced EndNote Web and it has been improved. However, it is still based on using a plug-in in Internet Explorer browser to Direct Export references from EBSCOhost databases, CABDirect and other databases which use Direct Export. Many of the computers in labs on campus will not permit you to install a plugin on them. This fact alone may negate the "convenience" factor for you,. However, if you are coauthoring with other EndNoters here and around the world, EndNote Web may serve your collaboration well.

Endnote X1 for Macintosh
OS 10.3.9 through OS 10.4.x (See system requirements)
New features include:
- Ability to add references to Groups. Maximum number of Groups allowed is 50. EndNote is working on adding more groups but may not happen until X2 in 2008. Groups are like the codes (for course names, comprehensive exam questions, dissertation chapters, grant proposals, etc.) some of you have used but with Groups you don't have to remember your codes or search them. Just click on the Group in left nav bar to see the associated records.
- Quick Search box available in library list view.
- And more too numerous to mention...so instead I recommend you view a neat short video of EndNote X1 new features here
